Launch of Free Global Stats Tool
StatCounter is delighted to announce the launch of our new free Global Stats tool. The tool records market share of Search Engines, Browsers and Operating Systems including mobile.
You can use StatCounter Global Stats to monitor issues such as:
- how Google’s new browser Chrome is doing against Microsoft Internet Explorer
- how the iPhone is succeeding against traditional market leader Nokia in the mobile browser market - see iPhone Takes Global Lead in Mobile Browser Wars press release

The analysis is currently based on four billion pageloads per month and is updated approximately five times per day.
Users can:
- Create and customize charts
- Download graphs
- Access the raw data
- Sign up for alerts
“This is probably the most comprehensive global web analysis you can get and certainly for free,” commented former Gartner senior executive, Oisin Byrne who now heads independent tech research company, iReach. “StatCounter is shaking up the web research market by being able to provide such comprehensive statistics at no cost to users.”
There is no charge for use of the data or charts but users must reference StatCounter as the source.

nice job!!! very useful and undoubtedly interesting.
but… browser stats for Lao People’s Democratic republic returns “Invalid XML Data”…
bummer… is that because of the ‘ in the country name?
Azadi
StatCounter Team Response:
Hi Azadi,
Thanks for the bug report. This has been resolved now.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:08 am
This is brilliant. I work in the web application industry, and the numbers and stats always seem to be at odds. With the comprehensive nature of the data StatCounter can bring to bear on the analysis, this resource is going to be very useful.
Cheers!

March 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Always some new and amazing tools, thanks Statcounter.
March 5th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
That really an excellent tool from Stat Counter
March 5th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Very Nice. I notices something very interesting. As I compared IE to FireFox I saw that whenever ID dipped, FireFox rose. So I copied the FireFox line, flipped it vertically, and it is almost an exact match to the IE line.
Clearly IE and FireFox are battling it out and when one wins the other looses.
Thank you for this great tool.
March 6th, 2009 at 3:41 am
Very nice update from Statcounter Team! You will always be my favorite tracking tool among the rest. Keep it up!

I’m confused by your including Opera (software) among a bunch of hardware counts; Nokia, iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry and Sony PSP.
My mobile device - a HTC Touch, runs Windows Mobile 6 and Pocket IE as standard and although Opera and other browsers are available, I expect most users to go with the default option, so how come Windows Mobile doesn’t appear as a device type (that would equate to the hardware) and how come Pocket IE (as the browser) is nowhere?
March 6th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Wow! Thank you very much. I can see this being very useful for students. I can already think of a couple of studies I would like to do with this data.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
Thanks for useful info.
March 6th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Just to say, I think that I find your StatCounter a great tool and very userful!!
My only wish to improve it would be that it is ‘live feed’ - I mean, that you do not have to refresh the page in order to see the page count ( google mail has this live feed, for instance - when you get an email, it shows in your inbox, without having to do refresh of the page)
March 6th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Very stable and reliable platform you have, wishing the same success with your new venture.
March 6th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
seems well - colourful and attractive - thanks to developers.

March 6th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Very professional, extremely valuable tracking information to manage an ‘active’ website, congratulations.
March 7th, 2009 at 1:01 am
You have a wonderful service range for sure, and going global is a right step too.
What I don’t understand is, why don’t you do it professionally? I happen to be a localizing freelancer, and that’s how our business runs. You have paid services (as well as free ones). Your site and services aren’t to be considered completely non-profit. So, I believe you should have contracted a localizing agency for the whole project or freelancers for each language pair you target. In my humble opinion, that’s the right way to do it, and it’s also the only way to ensure correct localization!
Kind regards,
Koral

I decided to pitch in with the translations into Brazilian Portuguese. Registered and everything, as the e-mail indicated. Started the job but was not able to do it in one pass. When I tried to go in again, the translations were not there, one place said the translations into Braz Port were 100% not translated, another said it was 100% translated. Don’t understand. Please clarify, because I want to help but do not want to waste my time. Thanks.

Statcounter is the first thing I set up on on any new roofing contractor sites. I love knowing what is going on instantly. These new global stats are only updated 5 times a day, but in the world of global stats that is very “instant”.
March 12th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Surprisingly, its also a lot more useful than other paid services over the internet.
March 12th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Thanks for providing this stats service - a great service especially on the mobile browser segmentation. There’s an interesting thread going on over at on the momolondon yahoo group @ http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/momolondon/message/6307 - you’ll have to sign up to see the thread, but if you’re into mobile then it’s a very active group and well worth joining. It is essentially discussing mobile access stats between StatCounter / AdMob and Bango. iPhone / iTouch play very high on StatCounter and pretty high on AdMob, but is way down on the list for Bango. This is due to iPhone devices accessing PC sites (a.k.a non-mobile-ready sites) as well as mobile-ready sites, but it shows a great trend on how the iPhone has impacted the way that people accessing the web from their mobile.

Very informative indeed. It’s very useful for tracking the trends and might be helpful for future updates of StatCounter
Thanks a lot
March 18th, 2009 at 6:56 am
I’m the nutcase type who drives your graphs into oblivion because I use three primary browsers and another one occasionally. I wonder how your stats take such contrarians like me into consideration. I like the graphics of IE7 the best. IE8 has way too many bugs in it. If anyone loads it and needs to get it off Vista 64bit, I can tell you how. MS Vista Help didn’t even know how to do it. They said I would have to reload my computer. Not. I figured it out. Simple but delicate and it can be done.

March 26th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
I have tried many and statcounter is by far the best service I have used and I have tried both free and paid for service. Both as equal except (obviousley) the paid service give you more results. So when using the free version, you still hae pleant of information that is not costing anything. To have and create programmes like this cost time and money, so when you get something for free, appreciate what you get, homw many stat sites offer all this for free and if need be for life?
March 26th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
sorry i forgot to mention that my last reply was not intended to those who praised it but to those who put it down and expected more for nothing.

See how Google’s new browser Chrome is doing against Microsoft Internet Explorer, how the iPhone is succeeding against traditional market leader Nokia in the mobile browser market…
Sorry, I don’t get it. Why would I care how Google’s new browser is doing or how the iPhone is succeeding in market share? I don’t work for these companies, I don’t compete against these companies… Why should Global Stats interest me?

StatCounter is the perfect example of a product which answers a need - which leads to stupendous viral growth. All that traffic and value without any (that I’ve noticed) spend on advertising. I wish more businesses would adopt this model.

Thanks for all!
April 30th, 2009 at 10:50 am
This is extremely useful. I’ve so far tried to use some statistics from one of the bigger sites we’re managing to measure trends, but the target group is never as global as you would like, but with this tool you can be certain of the wide variety of visitors. Great work!
April 30th, 2009 at 10:52 am
It would be great if you could also separate the stats to a granularity of “Category” which would give some understanding on how different kind of target groups relate to the global data.
April 30th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
I just started using StatCounter. And it is without a doubt the best service of its kind.
May 1st, 2009 at 9:39 am
