Mobile and tablet now gets more usage than desktop

Mobile and tablet usage across the StatCounter network has exceed desktop usage for the first time in October. We issued a release about this on our Global Stats site this morning.

It has never been more important to check and make sure your website is mobile friendly. Google released a tool to do that here.

To see the breakdown of desktop vs mobile and tablet usage for your own website simply click “Browsers” and then “Platforms” from the left stats menu. Here is an example of how it looks:

  1. I think we all new it was comming. I’m not so sure I think of a tablet closer to a phone. I think tablets are closer to a computer. On a phone it is just so limited in terms of how productive you can be online. With a tablet such as an iPad you can be very productive and can move quickly from task to task as is the experience with a computer.

Thus before we all go gearing our sites to mobile users I would consider the notion that every tablet view be counted as a typical desktop computer view.

That is just my 2 cents any how.

Don’t get me wrong online marketing and advertising efforts should have a big time focus and sensitivity to the mobile user but I dont think we should all make that our primary focus.

    Thanks for the post!!
