Folks,
A few months back, StatCounter was approached by an advertiser, offered lots of $$$, and asked to include a spyware cookie on all of our member sites…we refused on the spot.
You install StatCounter to track visitors to your site NOT to open yourself and your visitors up to being spied upon by phantom advertising corporations.
It appears, however, that other players in the world of webstats were happy to take up this offer…
We were shocked to discover just today that another well known stats provider is allowing up to 9 cookies to be installed in the browser of every visitor that hits one of their member websites. This means that the provider is making money by transmitting data on you and your visitors to a third party advertiser. Not only that, but to add insult to injury, the cookies are causing the member websites to load very slowly too.
In light of this, StatCounter wants to assure you that we track your visitors for you, only you and not any one else.
Which provider would you prefer??
By the way, welcome to our new blog 😉
Thank you for sticking to what’s right! You’ve just upped the value of your site in my eyes. I’ll spread the good word to others!
And this is just one more reason why I love Statcounter. Not only is it the most in depth stats provider I know of, they actually care about their customers.
wow nice
Thank you! That was the reason I stopped use nedstat
Thank you!
Thanks for saying no!
Great job on saying NO to spammers and ad-spies!
I will choose StatCounter as long as my site is free of malicious ad cookies.
My hat is tipped to you!
Thanks for playing on our side!
This is very professional of you!
Keep up the good job!
Statcounter is easily the best free stats service I’ve used. Tried Awstats and got my server hacked for the privilege which was kinda annoying. I’m willing to bet I know who the “other” stat provider is. Used to use them myself but stopped due to amount of pop-ups on their site – that they would do something like this isn’t really all that shocking.
Kepp it up Statcounter!
Way to go! Thank you, StatCounter, for protecting us. And thanks for being a great service. I’ve been meaning to get around to upgrading to a paid account, and this is one of the reasons I will be doing so ASAP! Thanks for not forcing us or nagging us about it, BTW. And for minimal non-intrusive ads on the freebie accounts. This is the kind of good business practice that I hope continues to win you respect and more paying customers.
Keep up the good work!
Great job! Thanks for protecting us 😉 We appreciates it.
Btw, your site counter services rocks!
Wonderful site!
Bravo!! To StatCounter. The web needs you.:-) An Independent Internet must not become an Industry run by Corporations that are willing to sell every byte of data as itbecomes a profit driven hell. Thank You StatCounter.Lets hope more are willing to do the same.
Thank you!!! I am a fairly new user and am glad to hear of your ethical approach concerning your product. I love checking my stats daily. Thanks again
Thanks for sticking to your guns and saying no! This means so much and says a lot about you! 🙂
I’m glad to hear it, but that’s what I expect from a Page Rank 10 site 😉
Thanks a lot StatCounter.com – You own!
Dont get hit on my website much often but would have hated to know that i was the reason for somebody’s pc going through spyware. Thanks a ton for sticking to ur guns on this. Also its always a good idea to disclose any such step taken as it would keep us updated
Also… As I just read a post above that said:
— Quote above —
BOTH Spybot and Ad-Aware are identifying StatCounter as spyware in their cleanups. I’m glad to find out that these are false-positives.
ARE THEY TOUGH?
— end quote —
I use McAfee Security Centre and it has no problem with StatCounter! It has a site advisory warning and my sites (which have StatCounter on ALL pages) come up with a clean bill of health (i.e. the green light).
Hey there
Thank you for saying “no” and for letting us know about this…
We are VERY happy with StatCounter and have been for… well, quite a long time now (not sure when we opened the first account with you guys – over three years ago for sure). We still have some free accounts and have also upgraded to get more stats (which has been very worthwhile and VERY cost-effective).
Keep up the good work!
