Calling all Volunteers!!

Hi Folks,

New StatCounter System – In Beta

We have been working on the new and improved StatCounter SC4 system…now we need your help to test it.

A lot of changes have been made ‘under the hood’ and won’t be immediately apparent; however some of the immediate benefits include:

  • Faster Loading Keyword and Country Stats
  • Exit Link Stats
  • Download Stats

Testing… Testing… 123…

MOST importantly the new system paves the way for other exciting new features … so watch this space!

How do I try out SC4?

It’s easy!

You need to create a new test project. This code should be added underneath your existing StatCounter code.

Note that you should retain your existing StatCounter code for now… Once the new system is fully operational we’ll convert all projects over to SC4 automatically.

To get started:

  • Login to StatCounter with the “remember me” option
  • Point your browser at this URL
    http://my.statcounter.com/project/standard/add.php?sc4=1
  • If successful the form should now read “BETA TEST SC4 PROJECT SETTINGS” then proceed as normal to install this new code below your current code.

(Note that if you logout and login again you will be directed back to the current StatCounter system.)

Thanks for your help with this – and we’d be delighted to have your feedback posted to the comments of this blog post.

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback so far. As the comments are getting a bit crowded we’ve created a new forum for you to discuss your ideas. Please click here to get talking about SC4! (Note: you need to register a forum account in order to post.)

Let the testing begin!

  1. Cool we will test it too if its for great improvements for the future.
    Statcounter is always the best.

But I wonder if it could include more graphical statcounters on our website to display maps of visitors.

    Best wishes to all.

  2. Specialists helping specialists helping people make decisions . That’s my kind of community team spirit.

  3. Look good…. other then the problems already listed by others i think that a little bit of info on the new pages like what is on some pages for example if you click into ‘Recent Keyword Activity’ if shows a little info including:

How can the Recent Keyword Activity help me?
Why does the same search term appear again and again with the same ip address?

All those things explain what that feature is a little which helps those who don;t know what is what….. The Exit Links page and the other new ones could do with this sort of info.

Otherwise it’s all looking very good…. Great to see StatCounter coming forward in leaps and bounds.

  4. I’m looking forward to testing the beta version! I use stat counter on at least ten sites and have found that people are searching for me on the internet…probably trying to find dirt. But oh well!

    Happy Holidays everyone!

  5. I found that if I block the cookie then the counter doesn’t show; only a link to Statcounter shows. However, if I don’t block the cookie then it shows pageloads. But, it also shows mine. So I just kept it blocking my original counter only, and I’ll have inflated pageloads until y’all fix it!

  6. When I use this I get an image at the bottom with a “X” (showing it can’t be found). How do I remove this image?

  7. I am added new counter and till now found already mentioned problems – IP blocking doesn’t work and “search engine war” shows SC3 statistic.

  8. Sure, you guys have a great counter already. I’d be more than happy to help!
I just added it. I’m also seeing the “IP Blocking” isn’t working.

  9. It is logging visits from me, rather than excluding them. I double checked the ip number I excluded and it correct.

  10. Just installed the script.

2 own hits resolved wrong – as appeared at the ‘Recent Pageload Activity’.
    (Germany, Nordrhein-westfalen, Cologne
    instead of
    Greece, Attiki, Athens)

  11. The example counter isn’t showing up so you cant see your changes if any when you try to change the look of the counter
