StatCounter on Blogger/Blogspot

We have been receiving a HUGE volume of support tickets lately from members who are having trouble installing StatCounter on Blogger (previously known as Blogspot).

Installing StatCounter on Blogger/Blogspot is really quick and easy… when you know how! So we’ve decided to post step-by-step instructions here for anyone having trouble…

First Things First…

It’s really important to choose Blogger/Blogspot as your Blog/Web Page Editor when generating your StatCounter code – see the screenshot below taken from StatCounter – so please don’t forget!

Now let’s get on with how to install your StatCounter code on Blogger/Blogspot…

Step 1
Log into your Blogger/Blogspot Account and go to the “Layout” area of your blog. To do this, click the “Layout” link in your Blogger/Blogspot Account as indicated in the picture.

Step 2
We need to add a “gadget” to your Blogger/Blogspot Account. Click one of the “Add a Gadget” links at the bottom or to the right of your blog layout area (as indicated in the picture). (Note from the screenshot that we are in the “Page Elements” tab of the “Layout” area.)

Step 3
Clicking “Add a Gadget” opens a new window similar to the one pictured below.

Scroll down through the list of Basic gadgets to find the HTML/Javascript gadget as shown in the picture below. Click the text (that says HTML/JavaScript) to add the gadget to your blog.

Step 4
When you add the gadget to your blog, the gadget will open in a new window as shown below. Paste your StatCounter code into the white space indicated by the red arrow (below) and click “Save” to close the gadget window.

(Note you must paste your StatCounter code here – typing the word “StatCounter” is not sufficient!!)

Click “Save” again back in the “Layout” area of your blog (see Step 2 above) and that’s it!

Your StatCounter will now begin recording visitor information and, if you chose the visible option, your counter will be visible on your blog!

(Of course if anyone is STILL having trouble with installing StatCounter on Blogger/Blogspot please log into your StatCounter account, click the “Support” link and submit a ticket to us so that we can help you further. 😉 )

  1. Everything is fine up to the step about choosing the HTML/Javascript widget. I cannot find it in any of the widget categories, and putting either HTML or Javascript into the search box does not return it either. Has blogspot now removed this widget?

I got around it by inserting the code into the html directly.

  2. I’ve been using statcounter on my blogger blog for the past two years and it’s been really simple and amazing at the same time. It also helped me solve some anonymous visitors issues. I left a positive feed back last year regarding it and many of my regular readers used it for their blogs too.

    Keep up the great work.

  3. Thanks for the instructions which were very easy to follow. I would like to add ‘You are Visitor No’ before the counter.

  4. Why not we just choose the “Default Installation Guide” and paste the codes before tag. The tag can be found in blogger account then click on Layout > Edit HTML? I have do it for a long time ago..
And its work fine for me.

  5. I’ve chosen the invisible counter, and it is -as said- invisible for the viewers but how do I see the stats?

  6. I follow this step Blogger – StatCounter Code Installation Instructions

    * Copy the StatCounter code (highlight + ctrl c)
    * Log into your blogspot blog.
    * Go to the layout area.
    * Click the link for “add a gadget”
    * Choose the “HTML/JavaScript” option.
    * Paste the StatCounter code into the content section of the gadget. (ctrl
    v)
    * Click “Save”.

But i still have problum, what problum in my blog only can see the word like

    statcounter

    alt+web

  7. I had the same thing, always saving…. or please correct errors. This was with Opera. Opened it in Firefox and now it’s OK 🙂

  8. i believe i followed the instructions correctly, but on statcounter i can only see my total number of visitors, no details, including how many visitors “today” etc.

  9. Hello, well blogger refuses the code..says “Please correct the errors on this form.” ive copy pasted it several times, even logged out and in again..

  10. I followed the instructions and got this error:

“We’re sorry, but we were unable to complete your request.

When reporting this error to Blogger Support or on the Blogger Help Group, please:

Describe what you were doing when you got this error.
Provide the following error code and additional information.
    bX-4594ub”

Now I can’t even go into Edit to remove the code.

  11. just installed counter. it is at left bottom of page in geen..a rect box.
but it has no numbers at all. just blank !
    did i miss something?
    pl help advise me.

  12. I have followed the directions but every time I get to the very end the HTML/JAVASCRIPT app in blogspot just times out when I click on save:

    Saving…

Its been like this over the last 2 weeks, multiple computers, multiple browsers. Dont understand what Im doing wrong…

  13. It appears that, for blogger installations, the Google HTML/Javascript gadget has been changed (mid-October 2008) so that it no longer appears like the example. I’m pasting my “code” into the main window and it doesn’t appear to “stick”… Suggestions?

    StatCounter Team Response:
Sorry Bruce – the gadget has NOT been changed. We just verified this now Oct 13, 2008.

Are you perhaps still using the old version of Blogger? This has been pretty much phased out. See here for details about how to switch to new Blogger.

We note that you submitted a support ticket – this will be dealt with shortly.

    Thanks!
