More and more people are using AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude to do their day-to-day work. From today you can point those assistants at your Statcounter stats and simply ask questions in plain language.
Ask your stats a question
Once connected, your assistant can read everything the Statcounter API can report, so you can ask things like:
- ‘How did traffic to my site this month compare with last month?’
- ‘What were my top ten pages last week, and where did the visitors come from?’
- ‘Which countries send me the most visitors?’
- ‘Did anything unusual happen on Tuesday?’
- ‘Who is on my site right now?’
The assistant picks the right report, pulls the numbers and gives you the answer, or a chart, or a summary you can paste straight into an email.
Connecting takes a minute
We’ve built this on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard supported by Claude, ChatGPT and most other AI tools. To connect, give your AI tool this server address:
https://api.statcounter.com/mcp
Add it as a custom connector in ChatGPT, a custom integration in Claude, or an MCP server in any other tool. Your tool will open a Statcounter page. Log in, review what the assistant is asking for, and click Allow. That’s it. No API password, no keys to copy.

Always under your control
Your assistant never sees your Statcounter password, and you can disconnect any assistant at any time from the Connected AI Agents page in your account. Disconnecting takes effect immediately.
Like the Statcounter API, the MCP server reports stats for projects on upgraded plans. If you’re on a free plan you can still connect, but stats queries will ask you to upgrade first.

This is awesome, a shame some people are so angry, I’m not sure they know that MCP is just a more advanced form of API….

I’m curious as to why people who are against this think that AI will now automatically have access to all of their data on Statcounter. This seems to be explicitly opt-in, so if you don’t follow the steps in this post, then AI will not access your data.

The reason I use statcounter is because there is no AI. People are tired of AI taking over our lives, and quite frankly humanity. Don’t let AI anywhere near our data.

This is completely optional. If you are already using AI chatbots or agents in your workflow, you can now more easily integrate statcounter into it.
