Attack of Nasty Ads!

Folks,

As different adverts are shown on StatCounter in different parts of the world, here in StatCounter HQ, we don’t actually get to see every single advert shown to our members… and although we try hard to screen all ads BEFORE they are are shown on StatCounter, some nasty ads do slip through the net

nasty-ad-small1In the last 24 hours we have heard reports that some nasty auto-expanding ads have been shown on StatCounter. We do apologise for this. We are investigating this with a view to removing all offending adverts ASAP and thanks are due to StatCounter members Gordon and Tony for their quick action in alerting us to this issue.

While we rely on our advertising revenue to fund our free service, we only want the nicest, best behaved ads on our site. Thanks for your patience as we work to fix this issue.

UPDATE:
We believe we have traced and removed the source of the offending ads. Please post here if you continue to see any nasty ads and give us the following information:

• Ad position – top or side
• url where ad is being seen
• screenshot of ad
• geo location where ad was seen
• Click url of ad

Please also take a screenshot of the ad and we will contact you directly to retrieve the image from you. Many thanks!

  1. As of today AVG software is freaking out over what seems to be a hidden Yahoo-sourced bit of code involving an iframe when I log in. I’ve had to fight with their software to view anything…. I can’t tell if it’s tied to ads but I only went around it ’cause I trust your site. Don’t know how many others are running away.

    StatCounter Team Response:

Thanks for the information Brian – we’ll investigate this as a matter of urgency.

  2. I didn’t see any nasty ads on the Statcounter yet.
May be because I don’t pay enough attetion on them.
But, any way, it’s very good care about us and
I’ll help to sort out nasty items and clean them up.

  3. I think you guys are AWESOME and there is not a day that goes by that I do not check my stats! I love the detailed reports. It really helps me out with my business. Thanks a bunch!

  4. I honestly have never had a problem and I’ve tried them all. Load time is good. I started looking when s=temeter just started loading so slow I could go brew a pot of coffee while it loaded. Thanks.

  5. Hi Guys….. and thanks, never seen any bad ad’s but a while ago I had a problem viewing Statcounter due to over aggressive Panda virus system and you spent some time telling me how to get around it, and I forgot to come back and say thanks, so THANKS!

    Great service!

    John

  6. why does the new statcounter project overview page look really bad now?
it used to be nicely formatted, now its all plain and ugly.
the left-hand menu is also screwed, way too low…
and lots of other pages on the website also look real bad.

that change is since recently. the site looked real good for a long time, but no more.
    whats up?

    StatCounter Team Response:

Nothing has changed at our end TC… perhaps test in another browser or on a different machine to see if you can isolate what is causing the display issue?

  7. thanks a lot man! it’s good to see statcounter still don’t take no carp! keep those nasty ads away 🙂

  8. I have been using your service for three years visiting your site multiple times every day and I have never seen an ad on your pages. I thank you for your wonderful service. So I have just started a new project with my eu singles sites.

  9. I would like to comment on your advertising. Ads on the side regarding amazing new tooth whitening method, discovered by accident by an Amanda Bell in Shelburne Nova Scotia.

I know everyone in this community of 600 people. There is no Amanda Bell here. There are three dentists here. None of them Famous and none have ever been on CNN, such as is described in the advert.

How does one get stunning before and after shots using a product they accidentally happened upon and didn’t know worked after they tried numerous other methods and took no before and after shots of those.

This is a sham and these people should be put out of business. Certainly, they should not be affiliated with Statcounter.

    StatCounter Team Response:

Thanks for your feedback Rick – appreciate it. We have received 2/3 emails in relation to these teeth whitening ads and we are looking into removing them from our ad channels. Unfortunately, this is not a single click operation so please bear with us while we work on this.

  10. I haven’t used your services yet, thus haven’t seen any ads either. I plan to get started soon with Statcounter on my various sites
